Saint-Gobain Abrasives, one of the world’s largest abrasive manufacturers, is highlighting a wide range of high-performance, innovative production wheels and technologies.Debuting at a major event for the first time, Norton Quantum Prime grinding wheels feature a new proprietary nanocrystalline ceramic particle that increases productivity in a wide range of applications.The new Quantum Prime grits reportedly provide high grinding efficiency and part quality, as well as longer wheel life than traditional ceramic grits.
In addition, the company showcased its high-performance Norton Ideal-Prime ID grinding wheel for precision applications featuring Quantum Prime nanocrystalline ceramic particles.The micro-fracture properties of Saint-Gobain Abrasives’ new ceramic particles, combined with the retention capabilities of advanced binders, are said to ensure long wheel life, excellent grinding efficiency and consistent part quality and excellent surface finish , thereby saving more than 30% of the cost.
Another focus is the new Abrasive Processing Solutions (APS) program, which provides custom grinding expertise by helping customers identify the best grinding or finishing solution for the application at hand.The new APS robotic automation cell is the centerpiece of the new program, located at the Higgins Grinding Technology Center in Northborough, Massachusetts.The APS team provides abrasive process development, optimization, automation and in-house testing.APS services include testing and optimization of new abrasives, improving quality and/or yield, and exploring custom processes.
Other key Norton and Norton Winter grinding technologies that will be showcased include the Paradigm Plus “next generation” diamond wheel, which utilizes a new premium grain technology complemented by brittle metal bonds to provide higher performance on carbide round tools. Grinding performance and peripheral grinding inserts on carbide and cermet.Also debuting is the G-Force Plus next-generation wheel featuring premium particle technology and improved hybrid bonding technology.
Also debuting is the new NORaXN889 microstructured abrasive belt, with a precise, flexible design that produces consistent, fine-grained part finishes for a range of industrial applications.The new belt is said to have a 30% increase in performance compared to other belts in its class.
For high-performance cylindrical grinding of cams, crankshafts, and internal grinding in the automotive and bearing industries, the company showcased the Vitron7 cBN grinding wheel with high-precision vitrified bond.
